The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will visit Lomira for its 31st annual summer performance on Thursday, Aug. 18. The 7:30 p.m. concert, under the direction of Ray C. Wifler, Dale Shipe and Brian Lydeen, will take place in the park shelter at Sterr Park.
Tenor Dan Fee will sing a recent patriotic song: Let Freedom Ring, while Highlights from the Irving Berlin musical “Annie Get Your Gun” will feature Liz Shipe and Matt Ecclestone. The pair of singing actors is active in the Milwaukee theater scene; Shipe is the daughter of the Band’s Associate Conductor Dale Shipe and his wife Nancee.
Special guest Mike Underwood will be spotlighted on vibes in A Tribute to Lionel Hampton. An Oshkosh native, Underwood studied percussion at UW-Oshkosh. Much in demand throughout Wisconsin, he currently performs in over 300 shows a year with an array of ensembles, and was named WAMI “Drummer of the Year” in 2013.
Pop medleys from different eras will spotlight Frank Sinatra’s Swingin’ Songs of Yesterday and Billy Joel in Concert. Chosen from the repertoire of band music and transcriptions are Excerpts from Die Meistersinger by Wagner and Robert Russell Bennett’s Suite of Old American Dances.
Rounding out the programming are the Austrian march: Under the Double Eagle, and the official march of the U.S.A. –Stars and Stripes Forever.
Concert funding is being provided by the Village of Lomira. A food concession will be provided by the Friends of the Lomira Public Library.
