The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will present the 38th annual Family Night at Buttermilk Creek Park in Fond du Lac on Wed., July 12. Under the direction of Associate Conductor Jill Wagner, assisted by Nickole Kawleski, the concert will begin at 7:15 p.m.
Children are invited to bring teddy bears and march with the drum major from Fondy High in the popular teddy bear parade, as the Band plays Teddy Bear’s Picnic. There will be a conducting contest for 8-year olds with prizes from Tucker’s, and Betty Trent will be on hand to do face painting from 6:30 p.m. until intermission.
Vocalists Kevin Fosado and Kim Richardson will sing True Colors and Can’t Stop the Feeling from the movie Trolls, and bassoon soloist Alaina Leisten will perform the first movement of the Mozart Bassoon Concerto. A Fond du Lac native, Leisten recently completed her Bachelor of Music degree in bassoon performance at Lawrence Conservatory.
The clarinet section will be featured on Reeds of Distinction, and 8th grade musicians selected from area schools will perform with the Band on a Sousa march, Manhattan Beach.
The program will also include The Marches from Star Wars, At the Movies with Danny Elfman, and highlights from Maonaand Beauty and the Beast. Rounding out the concert fare will be a novelty piece: Instant Concert, and the concert will close with our national march, Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
Family Night is sponsored by the City of Fond du Lac, along with a free-will offering that will be received during the concert. In the event of bad weather, the performance will be moved to the County Fairgrounds.
Next up on the summer schedule is a performance by the Symphonic Band in Campbellsport on July 13. The 7:30 p.m.concert will open with a performance by the Fond du Lac Senior Center SCAMP band at 6:00 p.m.
