THE FOND DU LAC SYMPHONIC BAND is a part-time professional, adult concert band. Its home community is a city of approximately 40,000 residents located at the south end of Lake Winnebago in a predominantly agricultural area of east-central Wisconsin, some 60 miles northwest of Milwaukee.

The Symphonic Band is the direct successor to the Fond du Lac Military Band, which was founded in 1898. The Band was reorganized and renamed in 1974 and operated with the cooperation and assistance of UW -Fond du Lac until 1985. The Band continues to offer a cooperative program with local colleges in which students may participate in the Band during the school year for credit.

Weekly rehearsals during the school year culminate in a Cathedral Concert each November and a Pops Concert each April. The “summer band” carries on the Military Band’s tradition by providing an outdoor summer concert series in Fond du Lac and near-by communities, as well as special music for various community events year-round.

The Band was formed to serve the following purposes and objectives, as stated in the Articles of Incorporation:

To provide a sophisticated playing opportunity for experienced adult musicians;
To provide city and area residents an opportunity to hear good band literature sensitively performed;
To develop a regular and supportive following for the Band through effective public relations;
To enhance the image of the Band as a viable music performance medium on the adult level;
To demonstrate the support of worthwhile cultural activities by people of the Fond du Lac area, through quality performances throughout the state and beyond;
To conscientiously fulfil contracts with all purchasers of music;
This organization is limited to charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.
