Kids From Wisconsin at Buttermilk!

The Kids from Wisconsin will return to Fond du Lac for their 22nd   annual free appearance at Buttermilk Creek Park on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 7:15 p.m.  This year’s tour theme is “Sing!” borrowed from the same-titled song by two-time Grammy winning a capella group Pentatonix. The lyrics tell listeners to “Get up and dance, just feel that beat and sing it” – and that is what the KIDS are ready to do this tour season.

Executive Director Tina Weiss said “It is a gift to be able to bring the KIDS to their hometowns to ‘Sing!’ Having a hometown KID in the Kids from Wisconsin is very exciting for these communities, and something to be proud of. Enjoying and participating in the KIDS experience has had a positive impact on the lives of our 900 alumni and the nearly 5 million audience members inspired by our performances for nearly 50 years.”

Fond du Lac is one of those hometowns this year. Emily Brewer, daughter of Gregg Brewer and Jackie Block and a graduate of Fond Du Lac High School, has been chosen to tour with the Kids on saxophone. Currently, Emily is a sophomore attending St. Norbert College majoring in Music Performance with a minor in Mathematics. She studies saxophone under the direction of Dr. John Salerno and performs in the jazz band and top wind ensemble. She also performs in the saxophone sextet and most recently, played lead alto and soprano saxophone in the musical Chicago at St. Norbert.

Other area youth in the troupe this year include Alex Turicik from Plymouth on guitar  and vocalists Alex Hatcher from Ripon and Nathan Fink from Mayville.

The Kids from Wisconsin is part of an entertainment tradition created for Wisconsin’s talented youth back in 1969. Their formal introduction to performance was at the Wisconsin State Fair where they opened for many high profile acts.  Today, the pride and passion that enlightened that early music, lives on through a Kids from Wisconsin Revue.
