Symphonic Band at Buttermilk Festival

The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will perform the eighth of ten events in the Buttermilk Festival series on Wednesday, August 9. Music Director Dale Shipe will conduct an eclectic program that includes music from Ireland, Israel and south of the border, along with original music for concert band. The concert at the Wifler Performance Center in Buttermilk Creek Park begins at 7:15 p.m.

Fond du Lac Symphonic BandSoprano Libby Reinbold will sing two arias from Puccini’s opera “La Boheme” – Addio and Musetta’s Waltz, along with selections from “My Fair Lady.” A trombone trio comprised of Chuck Mahnke, Rodd Eggert and Jason Ehlert will be featured on an early 20th century novelty piece, Lassus Trombone by noted American march composer Henry Fillmore.

Music from Ireland includes the folk song Down by the Salley Gardens  and Solas Ane, (Yesterday’s Joy), a Gaelic tune in a setting by Samuel Hazo.

From south of the border, the Band will perform Alfred Reed’s El Camino Real, a Spanish march Amparito Roca, and Street Tango by popular Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla.

The summer season will wind up with the Symphonic Band performing “Music from Around the World” on August 23.
