The Water City Jazz Orchestra will perform at the Wifler Performance Center in Buttermilk Creek Park in Fond du Lac on Wednesday, August 2. The 7:15 p.m. concert is the seventh event of the summer-long Buttermilk Festival, a free, family-oriented music festival that is hosted and produced by the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band.

The Water City Jazz Orchestra was organized in 2015 by trumpeter Kurt Shipe and drummer Mike Malone. The co-directors met in college at UW-Eau

Claire where they performed together in the GRAMMY-nominated Jazz Ensemble I. Now Oshkosh residents, they have assembled some of the most talented jazz musicians in the Fox Valley to perform with the WCJO.

The WCJO’s repertoire includes many genres of “big band” music, from the great standards of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton and more, to the exciting new charts of the late 20th and early 21st century.  The program will feature vocals by Erin Krebs. With a style reminiscent of her musical inspirations: Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James, Krebs was recognized by WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) as Female Vocalist of the Year in 2016 & 2017.

A food concession will be available throughout the evening, and a free-will offering will be received to support the Buttermilk Festival. While there is a limited supply of lawn chairs at the park, concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. The program will be moved to the County Fairgrounds Recreation Building in the event of unsuitable weather. 

Upcoming on the local summer music schedule are a concert by the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band on August 9, and the 23rd  annual Kids from Wisconsin show on Aug. 16, with pre-show entertainment by the Lighthouse Big Band and Fond du Lac Children’s Chorale.
