The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will present the 39th annual Family Night at Buttermilk Creek Park in Fond du Lac on Wed., July 11. Under the direction of Associate Conductor Jill Wagner, assisted by Nickole Kawleski, the concert will begin at 7:15 p.m.
This year’s concert theme is “Superheroes and Princesses.” Children are invited to come in a superhero or princess costume and join in a parade as the Band plays Superheroes R Us. Other superhero music on the program includes Superman Returns, Captain America March, and Bond – James Bond.
Two of the band’s own superheroes will be soloists with the band. Mitch Schmahl will be featured in a trumpet solo: Andante et Allegro, and Mark Thompson will perform a timpani solo, Tympolero.
Four local princesses, Marissa Krueger, Sydney Sebert, Grace Quast and Elizabeth Jacobson, will don the costumes of favorite Disney characters to sing “princess songs” from “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “Moana” and “Frozen.”

The band will perform the memorable tunes from “The Wizard of Oz” and What’s Up at the Symphony, a collection of Bugs Bunny’s greatest hits.
Seventeen eighth graders from area schools will join the Band to play the march Flying Cadets (The musicians, and the schools they are from, are: Back row: Corrie Phelan-Sabish, Amelia Last-Sabish, Olivia Arkin-Theisen, Lauren Benson-Theisen, Henry Gilhaus-Theisen, Macallan Miller-STEM. Next up on the summer schedule is a performance by the Symphonic Band in Campbellsport on July 12. The 7:30 p.m. concert will open with a performance by the Fond du Lac Senior Center SCAMP band at 6:00 p.m.
