The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will present its 43rd annual Cathedral Concert on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 3:00 p.m.. Under the direction of Music Director Dale Shipe and Associate Conductor Jill Wagner, the concert will take place at Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 51 W. Division Street in Fond du Lac.
The concert will be preceded by an organ recital starting at 2:30 p.m Organ recitalist Kenneth Hill will also join with the Symphonic Band to perform the Finale of Saint-Saens’ “Symphony No. 3” (Organ Symphony). Hill is Minister of Music at Hope Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac where he directs the choirs, brass ensemble, handbell choir, and worship teams, and serves as parish organist. He earned bachelor and master degrees from Concordia University, Chicago (1978, 1992), and a Masters in Church Music from Concordia University, Mequon (2005).
Alumnae of the Fond du Lac High School choral music program will be featured vocalists, singing Mozart’s Canzonetta sull’aria from “The Marriage of Figaro,” and the Flower Duet from Delibes’ opera “Lakme.”
Soprano Alexandra Zulauf obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Drake University and Master’s from Florida State University, both in Voice Performance, and has performed in numerous opera and oratorio productions. Music from Russia will be heard in Liadov’s Festival in Russia, Prelude and Dance of the Mystic Flames by Scriabin, and Waltz No. 2 from “Suite for Variety Stage Orchestra” by Shostakovich.
The band will also perform the exciting and dramatic Festive Dance from Gounod’s French ballet suite “Faust.” In contrast is the lyrical and expressive Nimrod from Edward Elgar’s “Enigma Variations.” In keeping with long-standing tradition, the concert will close with the band singing John Rutter’s The Lord Bless You and Keep You.
