FAN/FAIRS/FESTIVALS Concert on July 27

Fan/Fairs/Festivals is the theme for the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band’s third Buttermilk Festival concert on Wednesday, July 27. The performance will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the Wifler Performance Center in Buttermilk Creek Park, with guest conductor Toby Scucha and vocalist Paul Thompson.

Dr. Scucha is Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Music Education and Bands at Ripon College, and is one of the candidates to replace Symphonic Band Music Director Dale Shipe when he retires at the end of this year. A Fond du Lac native, Dr. Thompson is currently Director of Choral Activities at Ripon College. He will be featured singing Nessun Dorma and Come to the Fair.

Other program highlights include Tango Fandango; Fanfare for a Festive Day; Danzon; Fandango Asturiano; Earth, Wind and Fire in Concert, and selections from My Fair Lady. Two Sousa marches Fairest of the Fair and The National Game, round out the concert program.

The Symphonic Band’s Buttermilk Creek Park concerts are sponsored by the City of Fond du Lac, along with free-will offerings that are received during each concert,. A food concession is available, and In the event of unsuitable weather, the performance will be held at the Recreation Building at the County Fairgrounds.

Next on the Buttermilk Festival music calendar on Aug. 3 is TORMÉ SINGS TORMÉ  featuring Steve March-Tormé singing the songs made famous by his father, Mel Torme.
