The Goethes Groove Connection from Germany will present two concerts in Fond du Lac during its visit to the community under the auspices of the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp International Touring Program. The youth jazz ensemble will perform at Holy Family Church on Tuesday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m. and at Buttermilk Creek Park on Wednesday, July 18 at 7:15 p.m. The Wednesday performance will be a joint concert with the Fond du Lac High School Summer Band. Both concerts are free.
Goethes Groove Connection is a 25 piece “big band” comprised of students in grades 9 to 12, and affiliated with Goethe High School in Emmendingen, Germany. Organized in 2003 by Director Joachim Muller, the ensemble focuses on Swing, Rock and Latin Jazz, along with funk and hiphop styles.
GGC has performed throughout the region of Emmendingen and the whole of Baden-Wurttemberg (southwest Germany), including performances with the SWR-Big Band of Stuttgart in 2016, the Zeltmusikfestival of Freiburg 2016, and the Jazz & More Project in March, 2017.
Goethes Groove Connection has held workshops with prominent musicians such as Klaus Graf and Joo Kraus, both members of the famous SWR-Big Band Baden-Wurtternberg, and has participated in the International Jazz & Rock School Freiburg. In 2013 the band produced its newest CD “Ulla In Africa,” and in 2015 it received the 2nd award at a regional competition: Jugend Jazzt. and open to the public; a free-will offering will be received.

Goethes Groove Connection is the ninth Blue Lake group to visit Fond du Lac since 2008. Sponsored by the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band and co-hosted by the Fondy High Bands, Holy Family Congregation, Fond du Lac Music Parents and the Fond du Lac Children’s Chorale, the guests are being housed in private homes during their 3-night visit.
