July 4th Americana Concert at Lakeside Park

The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will present its traditional Americana Concert in the bandstand at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac on Wednesday, the 4th of July, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Erected and donated to the community by William McDermott, the bandstand has been home to Fourth of July band concerts since 1901. It was named in honor of longtime Military Band leader Joseph Schmitz in 1968 and placed on the local registry of historic landmarks in 1973.

Vocalist Deb Fett will sing a medley of Judy Garland favorites and I’ve Made My Plans for the Summer. John Lepien will be trombone soloist on Im teifen Keller (Down Deep in the Cellar).

American popular and folk music will be represented with American Folk Rhapsody No. 1 by Clare Grundman and a Gospel Rock medley.

Patriotic selections include Ever Braver, Ever Stronger; Amber Waves of Grain; and At Dawn They Slept. The Band will also play the songs of the U.S. Armed Forces, along with our state song: On Wisconsin. Rounding out the program are National Emblem March by Bagley, and two by John Philip Sousa: Manhattan Beach and Stars and Stripes Forever.

The Band’s performance will be followed by fireworks on the lakefront at 9:30 p.m.. The Symphonic Band’s summer concerts in Fond du Lac are sponsored by the City of Fond du Lac, and a free-will offering will be received to assist with summer concert expenses.
