The Buttermilk Festival will present a free performance by KATE VOSS AND THE HOT SAUCE at the Wifler Performance Center in Buttermilk Creek Park this Wednesday, July 31, at 7:15 p.m.
A true variety band, Kate Voss and The Hot Sauce draws on Kate Voss’ varied background with jazz, blues, pop, country, oldies, and Americana. As a full-time musician, Voss has cultivated a stage presence that charms and delights folks. Her show covers everything from Blues to Rockabilly to Western Swing, from Brenda Lee and Nancy Sinatra to Buddy Holly and Ray Charles. Kate’s charming stage presence and dynamic voice charms audiences of all ages as she nails the authenticity of the era in which she sings.
Hailing from Emerald City, WA, Kate got her start in the club scene in Seattle playing with a variety of groups on piano. She was awarded “Vocalist of the Year” and “Ensemble of the Year” from Earshot Magazine in Seattle, and since her move to Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 2021, she has been nominated for several WAMI awards including Female Vocalist of the Year, Instrumentalist of the Year, and Free Reed Player of the Year.
As leader of the band, Kate sings lead vocals, plays the ukulele, bass, and occasionally plays melodica while staying true to her one rule in the band: “Voss’ voice is equal parts Billie Holiday and Teresa Brewer…” – Marc Phillips, The Vinyl Anachronist
A food concession will be available, and a free-will offering will be received to support the Buttermilk Festival. While there is a limited supply of lawn chairs at the park, concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. The program will be moved to the County Fairgrounds in the event of unsuitable weather.
Upcoming on the local summer music schedule is the Symphonic Band presenting “Kings and Queens of Pop” on August 7, followed by the Kids From Wisconsin on August 14.
