Under the direction of Music Director Dr. Evan Chancellor, the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will present its 42nd annual Pops Concert on Saturday, March 25, at 7:00 p.m. at the FdL High School Performing Arts Center, 801 Campus Drive.
With the theme “A Celtic Fantasy,” the concert will feature selections from the movies “Braveheart” and “Far and Away,” and the immensely popular stage show “Riverdance.” Also on the program are two charming folk song arrangements by Percy Grainger: “Shepherds Hey” and “Irish Tune from County Derry” (O Danny Boy). Music by contemporary composers includes a setting of the Scottish folk song “Loch Lomond” by Frank Ticheli and “Four Scottish Dances” by Malcolm Arnold.
The band’s program will be interspersed with music by guest artists Cat and Hare, a MIlwaukee-based quartet that performs Irish and Scottish music on fiddle, concertina, tenor banjo, harp, bodhran, and bouzouki. Founded just before the Great Pause of 2020, the band draws inspiration from archival sources, classic recordings, and contemporary Irish and Scottish traditional musicians. Group members are Olivia Langby: fiddle and concertina, Christian Wandzala: tenor banjo, tin whistle, harp, bouzouki, voice; Amy Richter: bodhrán and percussion; and Jeff Ksiazek: bouzouki and tin whistle.
There is no admission charge for the concert; a free-will offering will be received.
