Stipends from the City of Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, and the Wisconsin Arts Board, along with local cosponsor contributions, make possible a series of approximately ten summer concerts. An annual fund drive and special gifts from organizations and foundations account for more than 50% of the Band’s total budget of over $40,000 per year. Other income is derived from free-will offerings, and miscellaneous fund-raisers such as CD sales, ice cream socials, and the like. From 1987 through 1997 the Band conducted public bingo games once a month, with proceeds earmarked for equipment and special needs.
The Band’s largest budget item is for personnel, including administrative salaries and soloist, technician and summer band musician fees. Travel is reimbursed to musicians who travel 10 or more miles, one-way, to rehearsals and performances. Other budget categories include instrument and equipment purchases and repairs; liability, accident, and property insurance; music purchases; promotion and publicity; and general management expenses.
