The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band, under the direction of Evan Chancellor, will present its 37th annual summer concert at Sterr Park in Lomira on Thursday, August 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The program will feature several selections made famous by American pop artists, including “Pop Rock Legends: Elvis,” “Boy Bands Then and Now,” “Beatles Gold,” and “Totally Tina Turner.” More American pop favorites will be heard in “An Ellington Festival,” “Irving Berlin Showstoppers,” and “Gershwin!”
The band will also perform “O’er the Land of the Free,” which was composed by Johnnie Vinton in 2014 to commemorate the anniversaries of important events in American history: the writing of The Star-Spangled Banner in 1814, the beginning of World War I in 1914, and the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France in 1944. Closing the program will be the official march of the United States: Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Concert funding is being provided by the Village of Lomira, and a food concession will be hosted by the Friends of the Lomira Public Library. The concert will be moved to Trinity Methodist Church in the event of inclement weather.
